Computer Viruses

ILOVEYOU, I think that most of you must hear it by now. The Love bug virus, initially spread via e-mail messages, brought the mail systems of thousands of companies and government agencies to their knees while destroying files on an estimated ten of millions of computers. From the inspiration of Love Bug, I think maybe it is a good time to review Computer viruses in details. Therefore, I have chosen my topic for the online presentation Computer Viruses. http://www.geocities.com/rwoo2000/CVP1.html?958120219440

Question for discussion: The Love Bug spread via e-mail and assaults though Microsoft Corp.'s Outlook e-mail client. Many people believe that Microsoft should take more responsibility for the threat of VBScript-borne viruses. It had more than a year to react after last March's Melissa virus but did nothing to prevent the recent rash of similar viruses. What are your thoughts?

Microsoft as usual has to make the most profit. so in stead of taking act to stop viruses being tranmetted trought Ms-outlook they are probably making a new version of outlook which they will say it is bugless and they will sell it even more expensive than the previous version and make more profit.

Although Microsoft should have taken actions in response to the initial Melissa virus threat, I think Microsoft is not only to blame. Everyone had a fair share in contributing to the spread of this malicious love bug, the virus prorgrammers for victimizing Microsoft and misusing their tools , and the naive users for clicking on everything they see without taking precaustions. Virus programmers will never stop and they could have easily taken advantage of any other softwares; Microsoft bugs will never disappear; unexperienced users will always help spread the virus and so anti-virus programmers will never be out of jobs.

I agree, I feel they should hold some responsibilty. If they are going to accept the royalties of their creations, they must compensate for its faults.

I think as time goes on, punishment for computer hacking and viruses will get much stiffer. Right now, there is the idea that if you hack into a government database, they will come and offer you a job cause you are a genius.
This may even has some basis in fact... but i believe this will change as publicity over attacks grows. People will demand punishment.

This I Love You Bug drew every one crazy. I had almost got it. But I got escape by realizing it. It is to your benefit to be very safe about these thing. Before you open unknow files make sure they are not virused. There is lots of programs to prevent viruses. But there is always some sick person who has to come up with something better. So we should just be carefull when we are on the Web. Also excepting disks from someone.

Back in the old days, a trojan horse was a trojan horse, not a virus. But back then, hackers were real hackers, not crackers nor script kiddies.

M$ have a Outlook security patch that basically disables attachments. M$ scripting engines and languages have serious security problems (newest hole is found in office assistants, you know, Clippy and Bot and all the other annoying ones.)

Well...you should know Microsoft by now.

Always slow to react. Maybe we should all stop using Windows and we won't have to worry about things like this anymore. Maybe??!!

It is too many people try to make some virus to prove themself is good on it.

The destory things are the really good reward for those people.

No matter what you do all the protection, still has someone can devolope a new virus.

It is hard to avoid it.

Just try the best.
