SCSI

This is my presentation site: http://www.jackychui.8m.com/SCSI.htm

The question is: Most of the people use SCSI for the faster speed. Do you know which way to decide use it or not?

SCSI is good in general the SCSI hard drive is faster than the IDE but I think it is not worthed to be bought for a home use and certainly with price difference with the IDE. So I think if the one doesn't have a server to run he should stey with IDE.

From what it sounds like SCSI seems to be good for mainly workstations and servers. If the basic user doesn’t need to have fast speed and multiple devices at once, he can settle for something less.

SCSI still have their place, SCSI have more response time than IDE, The newest SCSI UT WIDE 160, with latest 10000rpm harddrive have 30% total more speed than IDE ATA-66 with 7200rpm. For high performace and tough job, choose SCSI.

SCSI is great if you have the resources, but for home use its not a must have.

If that thing supports SCSI, use it. That's all

SCSI is good if you really need to customize your system and want to use alot of different devices.

SCSI is great in speed. But it is for major servers and workstations. It requires multiple connects to make less interrupts. However SCSI is not really a good choice for home use.

One of the main advantages of a SCSI device is the ability to chain many devices together to a single adapter. This frees up interrupts and allows you to add more devices.

SCSI for your home PC is not worth the money unless you are doing highly intensive work.

For home stick with IDE. If you are only using MS Word and checkin email SCSI makes no sense.

If you have a server such as a web server or file server and it is in high use then think about SCSI. The Price/Performance on the UDMA/66,7200rpm IDE drives definitely is more cost effective than any SCSI system.

SCSI typically relieves the CPU from controlling devices such as disk drives, tapes drives, scanners, etc, thus more CPU cycles are available for other tasks. However, since ultra ATA mode was invented, this benefit was also available to ATA devices.

SCSI devices have other benefits, such as command queueing (issuing one command before the previous one completes) and disconnection (free the bus while waiting for a response so another device can have control of the bus).

SCSI also supports much more devices. SCSI is a very important factor for ability to multitask.

SCSI is a great technology. In fact, it is one of fast growing sector. 2 major manufactures, if I recall right, are Adaptec and Qlogic. They are major manufacture in the field.
