Virtual Reality
|
Beginning of early 80's, computer science broke into another technological branch so called "Virtual Reality". We all have seen movies like "Lawnmower Man" and "Jonny Mnumonic", and we have some idea about what would Virtual reality be like. In this short presentation, I would like to talk little bit about VR (from now on I will refer Virtual reality this way). Force feedback provides direct perception of three-dimensional (3D) objects and directly couples input and output between the computer and user. It acts as a powerful addition to graphics display for problems that involve understanding of 3D structure, shape perception, and force fields. The addition of force display to computer graphic systems has produced a factor of two improvement in rigid-body motions during simulated drug docking, enabled new types of manipulation, and provided users with a stronger sense of understanding. We use this kind of technology to understand or simulate some of the environment to practice and be trained accordingly to decrease the possibilities of mishaps. For example, NASA has VR simulated space vessel for astronaut to drive on the face of moon. If they don't know nothing about the vehicle they are operating, they will meet with disater. Therefore, this kind of simulation is very required for charter into unknow planet or to explore some of the known planet in our solar system. However, technology of VR has not been change much since the beginning to simulate as close as our reality, we won't be able to experience our unique five senses in the VR.

Actually that was a very interesting subject since the introduction of VR people understand objects better than regular pictures. Like clothing store on the web whom are using VRML to make people understand better what kind of clothes they are buying.

The development of VR brought up some useful applications in simulations and entertainment. Its very good in simulations for training and educational purposes. For entertainment, it created many cool games and even movies!

Aside from entertaining VR is very helpful in simulations. The army uses it for training many of its soldiers. It is the first step in learning to actually drive a tank. It saves machines, gas, and wear and tear. Advances in this field will prove very beneficial.

VR is great for training without the actual place or equipment. It's perfect for any entertainment. And it's also great for if anyone wants to know how does our physical world work.

VR is most useful in training simulations for pilots, etc. Then again it is only simulation and the world is more dynamic and can only represent the world in a certain perspective no matter how good they are.

I enjoy watching things like this as they progress. One day you can tell your grandchildren, " I remember when they didn't even have VR!"

I think Virtual Reality is fun to watch. Movies become much more fun because of that. People earn lots of money through it. The 3D shapes make understand things better. It is a great tool to use.

VR is still not popular because it needs a mass of technology and calculation. Even it appears right now but the quility is not good enough. However, VR technology has a great affected on Education. e.g. Flight simulation, space development.

Most time the power of Vr could be seen in movies and without this I think a movi like the matrix wouldn't be that good. Even thought images get modified to cetain extent, that doesn't mean that people would loss thier senses.

I hope VR can some day to approach to your objectives, so that we can all profit for it.
