RAID(Redundant Array of Independent Disks)

My presentation is at:

http://unlser1.unl.csi.cuny.edu/~hector/490/

My question is:

Do you think RAID is absolutely necessary in the business environment?

I think it depence of what kind of buisness is there because in general for buisness man they always calculate the lost and benefit and if it is benefeciary for the buisness they should have RAID.

Yes, if performance level and efficiency will increase, businesses should use RAID. Depending on the business type of a company, the right level of RAID should be used. There seems to be all kinds of RAID for all kinds of business. With the feature of redundancy storage, business will be more immune to failures.

The RAID is it absolutely necessary? It is hard to tell. Because it is depends on what kind of business you are running? How fast and large your business you needs? But I think the RAID is for the big business firm. They think the return more than how much they have to pay for it.

The bottom line in the financial industry is money. If using RAID is going to increase efficiency, which in turn increases profits, this would be the choice for many businesses.

A outstanding site from Woo Kit. I learned many things from it. Thankx. I truly agree with what Woo Kit wrote: Efficiency over saving space and increasing speed.

Nice site, very informative. I would imagine many wall street firms are using this tecnology... good to know if you plan on trying to get a job down town...

I agree with Kit Woo. For some business their biggest concern is not how efficient data is store but how convenient data can be access. Since RAID increases Operating system efficiecy and considering how performance of businesses improve, Companies should use RAID.

Yes, RAID's redundancy factor itself is enough to drive all businesses to RAID. Oracle would be nuts if their "O"-drive backend was not on some huge RAID system.

I do not think that RAID is ABSOLUTELY necessary in the business environment. It seems that RAID improves performance and space, but I think for some business that their biggest concern is not how efficient data is store but how convenient data can be access.

The ideal for business is to have their data accessible anywhere and any time. Any of your hear about the " O " drive? On Tuesday, the leader of database software Oracle introduces IFS.

It gives to PC users an alternative way to store their files on a hard drive. It makes accessible to any computer and less accessible to viruses.

As could be seen from your presentation, introducing raid at every bussiness environment would definately improve performance level at any job. Considering the outputs that are being associated with raid, the goal of any bussiness would be to increased productivity and since raid inreases operating system efficiency, then bussiness environment should consider having raid.
