The Best Tips of MainBoard

My Presentation is at:

http://csc490.webjump.com

My Question is:

Intel announce to give up using slot one interface for Latest PIII & Celeron. Instead Intel choose the early design socket 370. Why Intel make this decision change?

By the time I wanted to read the article the web page is no more available; BUT STILL I can answer the question in the economical point of view people always like to try new things with different shapes, for example people always like to try different cars so in fact since not all the world knows about computers people were triked by the pictures in the magazines with the slogans the power of the slot etc...

PPGA socket is somewhat faster than slot 1 due to the on-die cache but the normal user will not notice any significant difference between the 2. Be it a Slot 1 500 mhz or PPGA 500 mhz.

There was a time when compatability of cards and motherboards was a big issue. Especially o conflicts between different cards installed by the user. Inovation is exellent, but if it is not done across the board, there are aftermarket problems.

I think this will be beneficial when intel begins to implement its 1.4, 1.5 GHZ cpu's. It will allow for a more streamline design to its computing, making it more efficient.

I agree with Han. The paper was really good and provided lots of information.

Even Intel does not deny the efficiency of the socket design vs the slot design. The Slot design was implemented because Intel could not find a way to implement the L2 cache nearer (or on) the CPU die at that time. It costs more to produce a slot processor than a socket processor as well (circuit board, plastic casing, bigger fan/heatsinks). In order stay competitive in the market, intel needed to do everything to lower thte cost of their CPUs.

Many Intel processors socket FCPPGA nowadays. It is similar to the PPGA socket except the die is on the reverse side (thus FC = flip chip).

Intel is currently recalling i820 motherboard because of problematic memory translator hub, as you had mentioned.
